This hotel is actually a good choice for an overnight near the Milan Malpensa airport, as long as you know what you are getting and it is what you are looking for. The hotel is - as the name implies - a former Villa, and the building and grounds are actually quite nice. It is only a couple of minutes from the airport, and in that regard very convenient. The problem for some travelers is that this is not a typical hotel near the airport. It has a more traditional feel to it, which may throw some people when they arrive. I agree the reception staff could be a lot more friendly, but we have found similar experiences in other hotels. However, we found the waitstaff and rest of the staff to be warm and responsive. The problem with this hotel is that I don't believe they have figured out whether they want to be an airport hotel or a Villa Hotel. For example, the dinners are of a very high quality - with prices to match. So someone going here needs to be in a mindset to enjoy a nice meal and pay accordingly. The wine list is about better than you will find at most restaurants. But then half way through our meal, the reception desk person decides to pipe loud radio music into the dining room! (I went out and got him to turn it off). The other problem is that the dining room is in a beautiful, high ceiling room with marble floors. Beautiful to be in, but unfortunately, when people push their chairs back and forth the sound travels to the bedrooms above. Annoying, but they stop serving at 10, so unless you are going to bed early, not a problem for sleeping. My advice is that if you make a reservation, specify that you want a room on the side of the building that is not above the dining room. Because we saw some of the write-ups after we mede our initial reservation, we almost cancelled. Im glad we didn't, and would recommend this hotel as long as you know what you are booking and it fits what you are looking for.
